Manoa Stream is a very convenient place to do our research. Since it is right in Manoa in won't take a lot of time to reach there. Manoa Stream is a unique habitat itself. Being a stream it can support fish, birds and other small animals such as toads. It also has a variety of plants and weeds growing a long the river. Although it is easily accessible by man it seems that the area has been mostly undamaged. It does not have a lot of trash which will hurt the wildlife there.
The first time to Manoa Stream our grouped saw many different species interacting with each other. At first we saw a toad but it got scared when it saw us and ran away. We went further down the stream to see some birds resting on the shallow areas of water. We saw some competition between them when one bird started chasing another bird away when it got to close to him, but we didn't get it on camera. Heading back up stream we saw another bird eating a fish which is a predator prey relation. We also did not get this on tape. At the top of the stream there was the most moss and sucker fish there. Along the side of the stream was a couple of hala trees and some other weeds and plants.
Journal Entry #2
As the plant specialist in the group I have observed the diversity of plants. The plants life live on the banks surrounding the stream or on small islands of dirt in the middle of the stream. I noticed that the plant life on the side of the stream were mostly tall weeds and trees. There were a few patches of grass but not many. This may a sign of competition for a spot too grow on the bank of the river. For those plant who were capable of filling a different niche the plants lived on the stream. Little islands of dirt and rock stuck out of shallow parts of the stream. Not many plants could live there due to the water constantly surrounding them but the one that could had less competition and more room to grow. Other than weeds and trees there was still more plant life to be found. Underwater there was algae. Green patches of this organism could be mostly found on rocks in shallow parts of the stream. Also algae here seemed to grow more in the places were the current was weaker than others. It seems the algae didn't want to float away from its home.
